Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy today expressed hope that the BJP government at the Centre would concede the plea of the union territory for full statehood.
Talking to reporters after launching a website portal of the Government School Teachers Federation of Union Territory of Puducherry, Rangasamy said he had already made a representation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister in this regard when he called on them at Delhi last month.
Mr Rangasamy said he would soon take a delegation of MLAs and leaders of all political parties to Delhi and meet Mr Modi and reiterate the plea. "We have adopted resolutions in the assembly pleading the Centre to grand statehood", he said.
Stating that his government had been able to implement various schemes with the financial position improving fast,Mr Rangasamy said as much as Rs 67 crore had been disbursed so far for students doing professional courses under government quota towards tuition fees levied by the private colleges.
