Several workers were injured as a church under construction at Aroor near Alappuzha in Kerala collapsed on Monday evening.
Search is on by police, fire force and local people to ascertain if anybody was trapped under the debris, police said.
The structure collapsed while the roof construction was in progress.
The injured have been rushed to a hospital in Kochi.
State Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash said eight injured workers have been rushed to hospital.
Rescuers were removing iron rods and rubble to find whether some workers are trapped under them.
The Minister said the district administrations in Alappuzha and Ernakulam have been instructed to rush more contingents of fire force and rescue experts to search the rubble.
A crane has been brought to remove the concrete block and mangled rods.
