Viridhunagar: A 13-year-old student of class 8 was stabbed to death in his classroom at a Tamil Nadu government school this morning. His classmates watched in horror as the attacker stabbed him thrice in the forehead.
The police said the attacker, suspected to be a young man from the same village as the student, entered the school in Pandhalkudi of Virudhnagar district, and stabbed the boy with a sharp-edged weapon at about 9 am, just before classes began.
The boy was rushed to hospital, but died on the way, the police said.
The attacker, also reportedly a minor, is absconding. "They appear to have had a dispute in the village. We are investigating," said a senior police officer.
The school was closed immediately. Local residents blocked road traffic in protest.
