Kochi: The body of a 11-year-old boy, who drowned off Thanur in Malappuram district has been recovered after an extensive search by the Coast Guard.
The boy and two of his friends had gone for a bath at Ottumpuram beach near Thanur yesterday, when they were washed away.
An extensive surface-air coordinated search was carried out off Parappanangadi beach and Thanur by Coast Guard ship and helicopter.
Coast Guard sources said a helicopter from Kochi and coast guard ship by Beypore in Kozhikode were engaged in the search operation.
The helicopter located the child's partially submerged body about 25km north west of Ponnani this morning. The body was recovered and handed over to police.
