Hyderabad: An engineering college student was today arrested for allegedly trying to rape a six-year-old girl in the Nalgonda district of Telangana, police said.
As the girl was returning to her house after buying milk from a shop early this morning, S Alam (21), a third-year engineering student, persuaded her to go to his house.
When the girl started screaming, some neighbours rushed to her help, police said.
Alam was beaten up by the locals before he was handed over to the police, said inspector Bhaskar of Devarkonda circle inspector.
He has been remanded in judicial custody. Further probe is on.
