Commercial vehicle owners in Karnataka have threatened to go on strike protesting the state governments decision to implement speed governors from June1.
Federation of Karnataka Lorry Owners' Association President B Channareddy said the order makes it mandatory for all commercial vehicles to implement speed governors in their vehicles.
This order would paralyse the entire transport system as commercial vehicles from other states do not fix speed governors in their vehicles, Mr Channareddy said.
Such a mechanism would limit the vehicle's speed even if it has a capacity to run 100 kmph, he said.
As per the order, he said, commercial vehicles cannot run at a speed of more than 50 kmph on major district roads which run into about 30,000 km in length.
Opposing the government's decision, the commercial vehicle owners in the state will go on an indefinite strike from the midnight of May 31, he added.
