Complaint filed against Karnataka energy minister before Election Commission

Bangalore: A complaint was filed before the Election Commission on Wednesday seeking action against Karnataka Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje for reportedly filing a false affidavit while contesting the 2008 assembly polls.

One Hanumegowda, claiming to be a Sangh Parivar leader, in his complaint to the Chief Electoral Officer alleged that Ms Karandlaje had not disclosed the shares she held in a private firm of which she was also a Director between 2007-2010.

She has thus attracted action under the provisions of the People's Representation Act, he said.

Ms Karandlaje successfully contested the Yeshwanthpur assembly constituency elections in 2008 on a BJP ticket.

Meanwhile, the minister claimed the complaint was "false" and made to tarnish her image.

She told PTI that she has requested the electoral authorities to conduct a probe into the complaint to enable the truth to come out.
