Madurai, Tamil Nadu: The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday told the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court that the establishment of Lokayukta in the state was under its consideration.
"A committee has been formed for the purpose, and it has been examining issues such as drafting of the bill on Lokauyukta," personnel and administrative reforms department undersecretary, S Malathi said in court.
"The central government had also proposed certain amendments to the Lokpal and Lokayuktha Act-2013. The legislation would be suitably drafted and finalised soon," she said.
The court had earlier directed the government to file a counter on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) by B Stalin, an advocate, seeking to direct the state government to constitute Lokayukta within a stipulated period of time to deal with series of corruption, and other complaints of malpractices against the state government.
The court directed the Union Ministry of Law and Justice to file its counter and posted the case for further hearing to February 26.
