Court defers verdict on Jayalalithaa's disowned foster son
Chennai: A special court in Chennai has deferred passing orders in the illegal possession of heroin case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's disowned foster son V N Sudhakaran. The next hearing of the case is scheduled for 6 May.  The case has also now been shifted to another court.

The order was scheduled to be passed on Friday, but just before that the judge hearing the case received a telegram that said that he and Mr Sudhakaran belonged to same community, casting aspersions on his neutrality.

The judge then informed the Madras High Court about this and deferred the order.

Mr Sudhakaran was arrested in 2001 for alleged illegal possession of 88 grams of heroin at his home and office in Chennai.  He is the nephew of Jayalalithaa's close aide Sasikala but was disowned by her in 1996 after her rout in state elections. He was arrested during her second term as chief minister in 2001.
