Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday issued notices to the Union Government on the issue of tenders for the construction of Indira Sagar Irrigation Project at Polavaram.
The Division bench of Justices G Chandraiah and N Ravi Shankar passed the order while admitting a Pulic Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by K Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and President of Telangana Jagruti Samiti (TJS).
The court directed the Centre to file reply by June 6. The petition opposes the construction of Polavaram project, and seeks suspension of the latest tender notification issued by the state government on ground that the project on the Godavari River does not have clearances from Union Ministry of Environment and Forests.
