Chennai:
The three-member team of doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), which performed the second autopsy on the body of Dalit man E Ilavarasan to find the cause of his death, submitted their report in a sealed cover today.
The report was submitted to the High Court Registrar General Kalaiarasan a day after the Dalit man was laid to rest at his native village in Dharmapuri district.
Ilavarasan was found dead 11 days ago after his marriage with Divya from the Vanniyar community in October last year and her father's subsequent suicide triggered large-scale violence targeting three Dalit villages including Natham colony Dharmapuri on November 7 last year.
Ilavarasan's family plans to turn his burial site into a memorial with a library and a gym. "Inter-caste couples can come here to take inspiration from Ilavarasan," his father Ilango said.
While police maintained it was a case of suicide, Ilavarasan's parents and activists suspected foul play as his body was found on a railway track on July 4, a day after his wife said she would never go back to him.
The Madras High Court had ordered a second autopsy by a team of AIIMS doctors after reports submitted by two doctors differed on whether there was a need for further clinical or surgical examination.
The AIIMS team conducted the second autopsy on Saturday.
