Dam across Siruvani: Protesters try to enter police station, arrested

Coimbatore: As many as 28 activists of "Tamil Tigers", a local outfit, were arrested today when they tried to stage a picketing in the city railway station to protest against the move by Kerala to construct a dam across Siruvani river.

Police said the workers, raising slogans against the Kerala government and attempted to enter the station. However, they were stopped by the security personnel, posted there and handed over to the police.

Meanwhile, in another related incident, nearly 40 DMDK workers were arrested in Pollachi while trying to burn the effigy of Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy in protest against proposal to construct the dam, police said.
