Kozhikode:
A probe would be conducted into the incident of a dead rat being found in a bag of rice kept for preparing meals for students of a school in Kozhikode, Kerala Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Anoop Jacob, said on Saturday.
A department-level probe would also be conducted to find out the reason and stringent action will be taken against those responsible for it, he told reporters after visiting the 'Supplyco' depot at the nearby Koduvalli.
A dead rat and some waste materials were found in a bag of rice kept for preparing noon meals for the students of the Higher Secondary School in the district recently.
The contaminated bag was among the 58 rice bags that the school purchased from a 'Maveli' store (fair price shop run by civil supplies corporation) at Poovattuparambu early this month.
Later, the minister visited the school and held discussion with the school authorities. He also visited the kitchen where the noon meal was prepared and also tasted 'kanji and curry', prepared for the students.
