Delegation from China's Palace Museum to visit Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: The Palace Museum in China has expressed interest in collaborating with the Kerala Council for Historical Research (KCHR) in Thiruvananthapuram, an autonomous institute under the state government of Kerala, in its academic programmes.

A KCHR release said on Monday that a six-member Chinese delegation, led by Deputy Director of the museum Feng Nai'en, will visit the Council on Tuesday to explore the possibilities of partnership.

The Beijing-based Palace Museum has also expressed interest to collaborate in the Pattanam Archaeological research, undertaken by KCHR, it said.

Pattanam is a tiny village located near Kochi where the KCHR has been carrying out an excavation for some years tracing evidence for the existence of the ancient Muziris port.

Wang Guangyao, a ceramic expert and research fellow of the museum, has been identified as the potential scholar to study the Chinese ceramic assemblage from Pattanam.

The delegation will have discussion with KCHR chairman K N Panikkar and director P J Cherian regarding mutual research and other possible areas of collaboration, it added.
