New Delhi: The Supreme Court today issued a notice to Karnataka government on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa petition challenging the appointment of trial judge to hear the disproportionate assets case she is being tried for.
The Supreme Court asked the government to explain if it had obeyed the court's earlier order directing the Karnataka High court to consider extending the tenure of trial Court judge Balakrishna so that he could continue to hear the case.
Jayalalithaa and three others have been named in the disproportionate assets case.
The trial is on at a Bangalore court after Supreme Court transferred the case from Tamil Nadu to Karnataka
Jayalalithaa's lawyer argued that Karnataka government appointed a new judge even after Supreme Court asked the Karnataka High Court to consider extending the tenure of the judge who retired on September 30.
