Chennai: DMK chief M Karunanidhi said today that the Centre and state governments should adopt an anti-superstition law after the killing of social activist Narendra Dabholkar in Pune last month.
"The Centre and state governments should introduce and pass a suitable bill for anti-superstition. A syllabus for scientific temperament should be introduced in schools and colleges," Mr Karunanidhi said in his letter to his partymen.
Since it has become the need of the hour to pass such laws and syllabi, all should come forward to take it further, he said.
"Dabholkar's death has impressed on us the need to make this campaign against superstition into a campaign of the masses."
Listing out certain incidents in the country, he said, "These incidents only make us wonder whether the rise of science has not reached certain sections of the people."
The DMK president also referred to Section 51 - A (h) of the Indian Constitution, which said, "it should be the duty of every citizen of India to develop the scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform."
