DMK executive committee to meet on June 22

DMK executive committee to meet on June 22
The DMK on Monday decided to convene a meeting of its Executive Committee on 22nd to decide on protest plans against what it calls the AIADMK government's vendetta politics and foisting of cases on DMK leaders.

The meeting will be chaired by party President M Karunanidhi at its headquarters in Chennai.

The announcement comes close on heels of the detention of its senior leader and former minister Veerapandi Arumugam, who is accused of land grabbing, under the Goondas Act.  He was arrested on June 4 in connection with vandalism targeting hutment dwellers in a colony in Salem.

Since the AIADMK came to power last year, several DMK ministers and senior leaders have been put behind bars on charges of land grab charges and on charges of accumulating wealth beyond their sources of income.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has denied allegations that the arrests were politically motivated and has claimed they were made on the basis of genuine complaints of by people with no political affiliations.
