DMK minister Ramachandran to stay in jail
Madurai: A local court on Wednesday dismissed the bail plea of former DMK minister KKSS Ramachandran and three others who were charged with shielding a person involved in a murder case in Virudhunagar district in 2007.

Mr Ramachandran was arrested by Virudhunagar police earlier in April, after Shahul Hameed, a DMK functionary, confessed to the police that he had murdered Lakshmanan, a post master on September 1, 2007.

Mr Hameed reportedly had an extra marital affair with Lakshmanan's wife Mariammal and they had together murdered Lakshmanan.

Though Irukkankudi police registered a case, the case was allegedly closed following the interference of Ramachandran.

However, following the confession of Mr Hameed, Mr Ramachadnra was arrested.

Two police officials, including  a retired Deputy Superintendent of police and an inspector were also arrested in connection with the case and they have been charged under various Inidian Penal Code Sections, including 201 (causing disappearance of evidence/clues and 218 (incorrect record or writing with the intent to save a person), when they were working in Irukankudi in Virudhunagar district.
