Chennai: DMK president M Karunanidhi today demanded that Tamil Nadu government make a "genuine assessment," of the drought-situation in the Cauvery Delta region and announce a relief package for affected farmers.
Citing reports that Kuruvai (short-term) crops had failed due to lack of water besides grim prospects of Samba (short-term) crops, he said the Jayalalithaa government should assess the situation.
"The government should carry out a genuine assessment of the drought situation and take steps accordingly and consider extending a relief of Rs 10,000 per acre," among others, he said writing in party organ 'Murasoli'.
