Chennai: With acute power shortage continuing to affect many parts of Tamil Nadu, the DMK's executive would meet on December 13 to discuss the situation. DMK president M Karunanidhi will chair the meeting.

In a statement, party general secretary K Anbazhagan said that the meeting will take place at the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam.

The state suffers from a shortage of around 4000 MW power. Most parts of the state experience power cuts upto 16 hours every day. However, Chennai is without power for two hours daily.

The power crisis was a key factor for DMK's poor performance in the last Assembly elections. The meet is also likely to pass resolution asking the Centre to give the power generated from the soon to be commissioned Kudankulam nuclear power plant to Tamil Nadu to bring some relief to the state.

Though Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had written to the Centre with the same demand, it is yet to respond. With the power situation turning bad, analysts say the DMK may attempt to capitalise on this ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
