Madurai: DMK minister Ritheesh Kumar, accused of directing a gang to abduct a party functionary in February for ransom, was today granted bail by the bench of Madras High Court here.
Ritheesh Kumar, who represents Ramanathapuram constituency in the Lok Sabha, has been asked to appear before the judicial magistrate here within 15 days and execute a bond for Rs 10, 000 with two sureties each for a like amount.
Justice R S Ramanathan asked him to also appear before police as and when required for the investigation.
Kathiravan was abducted by a gang on February 12 while travelling in a car. In his complaint to police, Kathiravan had stated that one of the gang members had told him that Kumar should speak to them over phone, before his release.
The DMK functionary had then called Kumar's personal assistant, following which he spoke to the abductors and asked them to release him.
The abductors released Kathiravan after taking his gold chain and ring alongwith Rs 2 lakh.
