Hyderabad: Vijaya Dasami, the festival symbolising the victory of good over evil, was celebrated with traditional devotion and gaiety across Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.
Dressed in traditional attire, thousands of devotees visited famous temples of the goddess at several places including Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Basara .
The devotees also worshipped goddess at homes as per tradition. Women and children set up 'bommala koluvu' (special arrangement of dolls and toys) tastefully with flowers and lamps.
Saraswati Puja was also performed by many families to initiate the children into education as Vijaya Dasami is considered auspicious for that purpose.
In Hyderabad, devotees began immersion of idols of the goddess in the Hussain Sagar lake, which were worshipped during the nine-day long festival.
