Bijapur, Karnatak:
36 hours after a four-year-old girl fell into a borewell at a village near Karnataka's Bijapur, rescuers are yet to reach her.
Three rescue teams are trying to save Akshata, a resident of Nagathana village, who fell inside the borewell on Tuesday evening while she was fleeing from a street dog.
Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force, fire brigade and the police are involved in the search.
Manaikandan, a robot expert from Tamil Nadu who has developed a device to pull out trapped children, was also flown down from Bangalore.
Manikandan pushed a camera inside the borewell to know the exact status of the trapped girl but the NDRF advised him against proceeding further as there was a possibility of the child sliding further below, officials at the site said.
A team of five doctors have been deployed on the spot.
Oxygen is being supplied inside the tunnel to help keep Akshata alive; six earth movers have drilled a parallel tunnel to the borewell to reach the girl.
Mudslides inside the borewell have made it even more difficult to reach Akshata, who is stuck 33 feet under the surface, fear rescuers.
A concrete platform is being put together to prevent her from slipping further down.
The rescue teams are hopeful about reaching the trapped girl in an hour's time.
