Hyderabad:
State police have arrested a civil engineer from Mumbai on charge of stealing and tampering with the proprietary computer software and the source code of a city-based computer educational firm and later offering it for sale.
During the course of investigation following a complaint, the accused Vivek Gharad, a resident of Mumbai was successfully identified and was arrested on Tuesday based on the IP log detail and subsequent end-user details, Superintendent of Police (SP) in the Cyber Crimes wing of Crime Investigation Department (CID) U Ramamohan said on Wednesday.
On interrogation, the accused confessed that he had stolen the software from the complainant's company (which is running computer-based educational and tutorial classes) while he was undergoing training in the organisation here, the SP said.
Vivek further confessed that in order to gain easy money he stole the software which is the valuable intellectual property of the complainant's company. Subsequently, the accused posted some video clippings of the proprietary software online, the senior Cyber Crimes official explained.
At the instance of the accused, his laptop which contains the stolen software source code, some DVDs containing the same for sale were seized and he is sent for judicial remand, Ramamohan added.
