With increasing awareness about organ donation, the vital organs of a 20-year-old 'brain dead' labourer were donated by his parents giving new lease of life to four persons.
Madhankumar was hit by a four-wheeler while riding his motorbike on November 29 in Erode district and suffered severe head injury and admitted to a local hospital in Coimbatore.
He was brought to Kovai Medical Center and Hospital the next day for further treatment, but declared 'brain dead' around midnight on December 1, the hospital release said.
As the parents expressed their willingness to donate the organs, doctors at KMCH and Aravind Eye Hospital, harvested the organs on December 2.
One kidney was donated to KMCH and another to Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, while eyes were donated to Aravind Eye Hospital, the release said.
