Salem:
Over 240 farmers in the district have submitted petitions to police, demanding action against a man who reportedly cheated them of Rs 150 crore by promising to double their money in 45 days.
The farmers in their complaint said he had collected some money from them and given them predated cheques with the amount and a covering letter to the banks on Rs 20 bond paper and a statement of accounts. However when they approached the bank they found there was no money in the accounts.
Police said they are investigating the veracity of the complaints and could take action only if they received solid evidence.
