Chennai: A 24-year-old man died in a fire that broke out in a multi-storeyed building located on a narrow street, police said.
The deceased, Lokesh, was working for a perfume company functioning from the second and third floors of the building in Narayana Mudali Street at Sowcarpet, police said, adding, the body was recovered with burn injuries.
Even though 13 fire engines were pressed into service, only one of them could enter the street as it was too narrow, they said.
Perfumes contained in glass containers were damaged and the dark smoke and smell of burning plastic proved a challenge to the fire service personnel who extinguished the blaze.
