Rameswaram:
Fishermen in Rameswaram will observe a five-day fast from August 8 demanding immediate release of five Tamil Nadu fishermen detained by Sri Lankan Navy in November last year on charges of smuggling drugs.
Thousands of fishermen would take part in the fast, N Devadas, President, Rameswaram Mechanised Boat Owners Association told PTI on Sunday.
He said the five fishermen were facing criminal charges in the island nation. Though the Tamil Nadu government had sanctioned Rs two lakh for their legal assistance, they were still in the prison, he said.
