Five cellphones have been recovered from some prisoners in Central Jail in Coimbatore during intensive searches for the last couple of days, prison officials said.
The searches were carried out in the entire jail a week ago prior to the visit of ADGP, Prisons, S K Dogra, after a parcel with 27 cellphones, chargers and batteries, was flung into the premises from outside.
However, no contraband or banned articles were recovered during that search.
Officials said seizure of the cellphones from the prisoners raised questions about security and added that strict vigil would be maintained to prevent smuggling of such contraband inside and stern action taken against those violating the rules.
