Flags hoisted for the 214th year of Thrissur Pooram

Thrissur: The flag hoisting ceremony for the famous Thrissur Pooram to be held on May 1 was performed with religious fervour at the Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu temples today.

The annual Pooram fete had its origin in 1798 through a royal declaration by the then Raja Rama Varma, popularly known as Sakthan Thampuran.

Flags were also hoisted on other eight participating temples of the nearby area.

The Thiruvambady and Parmekkavu devaswoms are the main promoters of the Pooram for several years.
