Foreign national arrested for assaulting constable in Bangalore

Bangalore: May 15 (PTI) A Yemeni national was arrested for allegedly assaulting a traffic constable when he was questioned for driving his motorbike without a helmet and his vehicle seized, police said.

Mohammad (20), arrested on Tuesday, was remanded to judicial custody by a local court here, police sources told PTI.

According to police, "when the accused was questioned by the traffic sub-inspector as to why he was not wearing a helmet, he retorted saying he was a foreigner and there was no necessity for him to wear a helmet. He was then asked to pay the requisite fine which he refused. At this, the SI asked the constable to seize the vehicle and keep the keys with him. When the constable refused to give keys to the accused, he twisted his arm, dislocating the wrist joint", police said.

The constable has been admitted to a hospital.

A case has been registered against Mohammad for physically assaulting a government official while he was discharging his duty.

Mohammad, who arrived here a month ago, was learning English from a private institute.
