Bidar: Former Karnataka minister and founder of BSR Party, B Sreeramulu began his 921-km padayatra on Tuesday from Basavakalyan to Bangalore to have a first hand feel of the hardship faced by people due to drought conditions.
Addressing reporters before launching his padyatra with the blessing of seers of various mutts who were present on the occasion, Mr Sreeramulu said his party would strive for eradication of poverty and women empowerment.
His padayatra will pass through eight districts before culminating in Bangalore on June 17 where the BSR party is expected to be launched officially.
Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda sarcastically said in Bangalore "I welcome padayatra by anyone, if it is going to provide succour to drought hit people".
"If someone is doing a good thing, it is a welcome step", Gowda told reporters when his reaction was sought to the former BJP leader's padayatra.
