Salem:
Four people died on the spot and six were seriously injured in two separate mishaps in the district early Thursday morning, police said.
In the first accident, two people were killed on the spot when the car they were travelling in hit a median and collided with an approaching car near Maduranchavadi, about 15 km from Salem, police said.
They said six people from Coimbatore were on their way to Krishnagiri to buy items for coming Deepavali festival when the mishap occurred.
The driver lost control of the vehicle after it hit the median, following which the car flipped over to the other side and was hit by approaching traffic, they said
None in the other car was injured, they said.
In another mishap, two persons were killed on the spot and three seriously injured when the jeep they were travelling in capsized near Kangeri, about 45 km from here, police said.
The injured have been hospitalised.
