Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court on Friday adjourned to September 24 the hearing of the bail petition of French diplomat Pascal Mazurier, arrested on charges of raping his three-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

Justice HN Nagamohan Das adjourned further hearing to that date after granting permission to Mr Mazurier's wife Suja Jones, the complainant, to implead herself as second respondent.

The judge said Mrs Suja's advocate Pramila Nesargi can assist the state prosecutor in the case.

During the hearing, Ms Nesargi sought to implead her client in the case since Mr Mazurier had not submitted documents, including a medical certificate as sought by the court.

Mr Mazurier's advocate CV Nagesh argued that Suja Jones should not be granted permission to implead herself as the bail petition is between his client and the state.

In his petition, he had pointed out that as per the Forensic Sciences Laboratory (Bangalore) test report, his DNA profile did not match with that of the child.

On July 27, the Fast Track Court-I had rejected his bail plea observing that "though DNA test has not tallied with the DNA profile of the accused, bail cannot be granted to him only on this ground."

Mr Pascal was arrested on June 19 on a complaint by his wife alleging that he had raped his daughter.
