Salem: A six-member gang stole jewellery from sleeping women passengers on a train while it had slowed down on a track near Sankari Durg in the district early this morning and escaped, police said.
The masked gang boarded the Blue Mountain Express when it slowed down near one of the three tracks at around 3.15 AM, robbed the women of their jewellery, jumped out and escaped, police said.
The women filed a complaint with police when the train halted at Coimbatore. The exact value of the stolen jewellery was being assessed, police said.
The train was on its way to Mettupalayam from Chennai.
