Puducherry: Clearance of garbage in the urban agglomeration areas of Puducherry was hit on Monday with the private firm engaged by the government for clearing solid waste, suspending its work citing alleged dues to the tune of Rs 26 crore from the government.
The Puducherry Municipal Services Private Limited (PMSPL) suspended cleaning solid waste from various centres within the limits of Puducherry and Uzhavarkarai Municipalities and also with the areas coming under the Villianoor and Ariyankuppam commune panchayats, official sources said.
The suspension of work was due to the non-availability of funds from the government of Puducherry to the agency which launched the integrated municipal solid waste management project for urban agglomeration areas of Puducherry last year.
Around Rs 26 crores was allegedly due from the government for the last 14 months to the agency.
