Madurai: A two-and-a-half-year old girl succumbed to dengue fever in Tirunelveli district on Thursday as the toll in the virus outbreak in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu rose to 40, officials said.
Eighteen patients have been tested positive for dengue fever in Tirunelveli Medical college Hospital, they said.
More cases of dengue had been reported in Madurai, Ramanathapuram and Virudhanagar districts, despite efforts by Public Health Department to control the infectious disease, they said.
According to officials of Government Rajaji Hospital here, three girls and a woman from Madurai had been admitted to hospitals in Villapuram, Sourashtrapuram, Velanathampatti and Tiruvadhavur yesterday.
They said one case had been reported in Ramanthapuram district.
Two persons were admitted to hospial in Virudhunagar district, they said.
