New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday asked Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to approach the Cauvery River Authority headed by the prime minister to resolve their dispute over the sharing of the river's water.
The apex court bench of Justice D.K. Jain and Justice Madan B. Lokur said this while declining to interfere with Cauvery River Monitoring Authority's report which on December 7 directed Karnataka to release 12,000 million cubic feet of water to Tamil Nadu this month.
The monitoring authority met on December 5 on the direction to the apex court to decide on the volume of water that Karnataka should release to Tamil Nadu.
As Tamil Nadu on Monday sought to assail the monitoring authority's order for not being based on factual position, the court said that it was not an expert on the matter.
