Kochi: Two gold bars, weighing around two kgs and valued at Rs 60.94 lakh, were seized by the customs officers from a passenger who arrived in Kochi from Kuala Lumpur by an Air Asia flight.
Officials of Air Intelligence Unit intercepted the passenger Kallattayil Hydru Shaju, hailing from Thrissur district, who arrived from Kuala Lumpur late last night.
He was intercepted at the exit gate of the arrival hall while moving through green channel. On a search of his luggage, it was found that he had concealed something on both sides of a waffle maker.
On opening the appliance, two gold bars weighing one kg each were found cleverly concealed in between the metal covers on either side.
The passenger was arrested and investigation is in progress.
