Puducherry: Karaikal Struggle Group (KSG) today urged the Puducherry government to take immediate steps to procure seven tmc feet water in Cauvery on which Karaikal depends for irrigation purposes as want of this quantum of water had been dislocating farm works in the region.

Convenor of the KSG S P Selvashanmugham said in a release in Puducherry today that the KSG adopted a resolution expressing concern over "failure of the Puducherry government" to address the woes of farmers in Karaikal.

Karaikal is entitled to get 7 tmc feet water in the Cauvery system but this was never available causing dislocation in the farm works.

Puducherry government should hold discusions with neighbouring Tamil Nadu State administration in this regard.

Mr Selvashanmugham said that farmers should be paid a relief of Rs 25,000 per acre of land as crops could not be raised for want of river water.
