Kerala Governor Justice P Sathasivam will flag off the state-wide 'Run Kerala Run', the mass run organized as a prelude to 35th edition of the National Games, in front of Secretariat on January 20.
Thousands of people from all walks of life including political and religious leaders, matinee idols and sports stars besides general public are expected to participate in the event, planned to be held in over 7000 centres simultaneously across the state.
One of the major highlights of the Run Kerala Run event to be held in the state capital will be the participation of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, the brand ambassador of the forthnight-long Games.
Sports Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan told a press meet here today that Governor himself had expressed interest to participate in the event.
"Governor will flag off the march by 10.30 am. Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar will lead the march," he said.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan are expected to participate in the mass run, the minister said, adding, the final list of the participants would be available within two days.
He said construction of majority of stadiums and other facilities had already been completed and a team of Indian Olympic Association would visit these venues on January 15 and 16.
On questions about the participation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the inaugural ceremony of the Games, the minister said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, now in Delhi, is expected to take up the matter with the PMO.
