Dubai:
The inaugural edition of the 'Grand Kerala Festival 2014' organised in Dubai concluded today with a scintillating musical performance. The festival was organised with the aim to bring Kerala closer to its one million expatriate population in the UAE.
The three day carnival held at Dubai's Wonderland Amusement Park to highlight the culture, cuisine, customs and traditions of the coastal city ended with four female fashion designers launching their designer wears at the venue.
Veteran actor Suresh Gopi inaugurated the festival on Thursday which saw the artists from different backgrounds enthral people, including hundreds of Malayalees who thronged the venue during the weekend, with their performances.
"This will be an annual event for Dubai. We are also planning to launch the event in the UK and some other countries to reach out to a wider group of Malayalees and others," said Sujil Bose, CEO of Chlorophyll Media which organised the event.
Performances of popular art forms of Kerala, live painting shows, exhibitions and several competitions were also part of the festival.
The festival also provided a platform to ten women entrepreneurs to display their designer wear at the stalls, Khaleej Times reported.
