High Court seeks affidavits of tribal women in Bidari case
Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court has directed the state government to produce original affidavits of the two tribal women who had accused former Director General of Police (DGP) Shankar Mahadev Bidari of alleged atrocities during the hunt for dacoit Veerapppan.

A division bench of justice N Kumars and HS Kempanna directed Advocate General S Vijay Shankar to produce the original affidavits filed by Erammal and Nagi who had leveled allegations against Mr Bidari when he was the Deputy Commander of Joint Special Task Force constituted to nab Veerappan.

The direction was given in response to Mr Bidari's plea seeking his reinstatement as the Director General of Police in the wake of the recent Supreme Court verdict directing the High Court to review the case.

The court adjourned further hearing of the petition till May 15.

On April 24, the Supreme Court had stayed the High Court order quashing the appointment of Mr Bidari as the Karnataka DGP. The High Court had set aside the appointment citing the allegations of atrocities against Mr Bidari, who is due to retire from service on May 31.
