Thiruvananthpuram: Post graduate (PG) doctors and house surgeons of state-run medical colleges in the state, who went on an indefinite strike on Monday, called off their agitation past midnight after the state government agreed to consider their demands.

The leaders of Kerala Medicos Joint Action Council said that Health Minister VS Shivakumar agreed to revoke the Government Order regarding compulsory rural service of PG doctors passing out from Medical College Hospitals (MCHs).

They said that the minister also agreed to set up an experts' committee with the participation of student representatives to study the issue of compulsory service within two months.

Around 2,000 junior doctors of the five state-run medical colleges went on strike from Monday morning.

The strike partly affected the functioning of all five government medical colleges in the state, especially their outpatient sections.
