Investigation team to file report in 1982 Congress worker murder case

Kochi: The Special Investigation team, probing the murder of Congress worker Ancheri Baby in 1982, will file its first report in a local court at Nedumkandam listing three accused, including M M Mani, CPI-M's former Idukki district secretary.

The report was prepared at a review meeting of SIT officers here yesterday.

The name of OG Madanan, former Idukki district secretariat member, also figures in the list.

The charges against Mani are conspiracy and planning to murder.

The report is likely to be filed at the Judicial First Class Magistarte Court at Nedumkandam on Monday.

On June 5, police had registered a case against Mani on the basis of his disclosures during a speech at Thodupuzha that the Marxist party had drawn up a list of persons and allegedly eliminated three of them. Following his revelation the party had removed him from the post of district secretary.

On June 4, a case pertaining to murder of Ancheri Baby, who was shot dead on November 13, 1982 was registered by police against Mani and five others under Section 120(b) (punishment of criminal conspiracy) and Sect 118 (concealing the design to commit the crime).
