Thiruvananthapuram:
A 40-year old IT professional from Bangalore was allegedly raped at an upscale resort in Kerala on Thursday.
The alleged rape took place at a star category backwater island resort near Thiruvananthapuram, where the woman had reportedly come as part of an office group.
She told the police that she was assaulted by two men who entered her cottage at around 2:30 am, early Thursday. One of them allegedly held her down while the other raped her. She complained to the police a day later, on Friday.
The police believe the suspects could be from within the resort, either staff or someone accompanying the woman, as the property can only be reached by boats and there is no service after 8 pm.
All guests and staff are being questioned and their phone call records are being checked, say the police.
A Kerala Women's Commission team is also investigating the incident and has petitioned the police for better protection at isolated resorts like this.
The woman has reportedly returned to Bangalore after recording her statement.
