Hyderabad: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been granted permission to quiz Jagan Mohan Reddy in the alleged illegal assets case. Mr Reddy is currently lodged in Hyderabad's Chanchalguda jail in the same case. The court has allowed ED to go there and question him between July 7 and July 21.
The ED had filed an application in court asking for permission to question Mr Reddy as he was earlier Chairman of Jagati publications which publishes Telugu daily 'Sakshi'. Jagati Publications reportedly received investments from firms based abroad in return for the favours doled out to them by the then government of Jagan's father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. The ED had wants to probe these links.
Mr Reddy last week informed the court that he was no longer chairman or director of Jagati Publications and that the ED could question those appearing on behalf of the company. The court had reserved its orders for today.
Mr Jagan has already been booked for alleged violation of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and the Foreign Exchange Management Act.
Several other people accused in the disproportionate assets case filed by the CBI against Jagan Mohan Reddy have already been questioned by the ED and their statements have been recorded. The CBI which is investigating the case, has already given copies of the chargesheet to the ED.
