Jagan Mohan Reddy's judicial custody extended till June 25
 Jagan Mohan Reddy's judicial remand has been extended till June 25. His custody was to end today, a day before by-elections are held to 18 Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha constituency in Andhra Pradesh. A high-decibel campaign ended on Sunday evening; the by-polls are being described as the semi-finals ahead of the 2014 Assembly elections.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court had last week given his custody to CBI till June 7.

On a day YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy was sent to judicial custody for 14 days in connection with a disproportionate assets case against him, his mother Vijayamma has written to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) SY Quraishi, requesting him to intervene.
With Mr Reddy out of commission, his mother, Vjayamma, has decided to end the fast she began on Sunday to protest her son's arrest by the CBI.  She will now lead the party's campaign.  

Like her son, she has blamed the Congress for using Mr Reddy's arrest to ensure he is not able to connect with voters.

The YSR Congress is fielding candidates in all the constituencies that are up for grabs.  Mr Reddy was drawing a powerful reaction on his tour of areas like Guntur.

Mr Reddy leaves for the CBI court in Namally. The court had rejected his anticipatory bail plea on May 25; today he is expected to seek bail, while the CBI will seek his custody.

The arrest comes close to the June 12 by-elections to 17 Assembly and one Lok Sabha seat. The YSR Congress is contesting all the seats and Vijayamma has said she will take Jagan Reddy's campaign forward.

From a small-time businessman to a formidable political leader, YS Jaganmohan Reddy - better known as Jagan -- had a rather smooth ride for over a decade before hitting one bump after another and finally finding himself in the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) custody.

"The CBI arrested Jagan Mohan Reddy at 7.15 PM," a CBI spokesperson said.

Soon after his arrest, Mr Reddy told party leaders who had come to meet him, that his supporters should maintain calm and not resort to any violence keeping in view the upcoming by-polls to 18 seats.

"I will fight this battle legally in the courts and I am confident of a positive outcome," he said.

Sources: Jaganmohan Reddy's arrest is imminent

Jaganmohan Reddy reached the Dilkusha guest house a little before 11 am for his third consecutive day of questioning by the CBI in a disproportionate assets case. His close associate and financial advisor and accused number two in the case Vijay Sai Reddy came to the guest house along with Mr Reddy's lawyer Ashok Reddy.In an apparent show of strength, Mr Reddy came with Congress MP Sabbam Hari, Congress MLAs Nani and Ranga Rao.

Jagan Mohan Reddy, chief of the YSR Congress will be questioned for the third day in a row by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) amidst growing speculation of his arrest especially since his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Hyderabad High Court.

On Friday and Saturday, Mr Reddy was questioned for nearly eight hours by the investigating body in connection with a disproportionate assets case against him.

The CBI is questioning Jagan in the presence of Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkataramana, who was arrested on Thursday for his role in issuing orders as minister for infrastructure and investment in the YSR cabinet, leading industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad and bureaucrat KV Brahmananda Reddy. All the three are currently in CBI custody.
 



There is tight security outside the Dilkusha Guest House where Jagan is being questioned in the illegal assets case. The usually busy Raj Bhavan road, where the guest house is located, has been blocked by the police.

The questioning that began at 10:30 am this morning is likely to continue till the evening.Jagan's family sent him lunch from home.

Long day ahead for Jagan; Supporters are worried that even if he is not arrested, the CBI questioning may continue for the next 2-3 days. Mr Reddy is the star campaigner for the by-elections in the state, scheduled for June 12. His party, the YSR Congress, is fielding candidates for all 18 constituencies which will vote.

Prohibitory orders are in place and there is heavy police deployment in Hyderabad and Cyberabad till May 29 in view of forthcoming by-elections and also as a precautionary measure.
Mr Reddy, an MP, is the son of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, who died in a helicopter crash in 2009. The CBI alleges that while YSR was in office, he conspired with other ministers to influence entrepreneurs to invest in his son's companies; in return, they were granted licences and other permissions required for their businesses.
The CBI inquiry into Mr Reddy's business empire and the source of its funds was ordered by the Andhra Pradesh High Court in August 2011.
