Hyderabad: With Jagan Mohan Reddy in jail, his sister Sharmila will keep up the political momentum for the YSR Congress party. She will start on a 3000-kilometre padyatra today from her father YS Rajasekhara Reddy's final resting place at Idupulapaya in Kadapa district.
Sharmila was seen as having been able to establish a connect with the people when she campaigned before the by-elections in June this year.
Talking about the proposed padyatra, Vijayalakshmi, honorary president of YSR CP said: "Sharmila's padyatra will cover all 23 districts in the state and is largely meant to keep YSR's memory and Jagan alive in public memory."
It is also seen as a counter to Chandrababu Naidu's 117-day walkathon that he started from Hindupur on the second of October. YS Rajasekhara Reddy's 1500-kilometre padyatra in 2003 was instrumental in the Congress coming to power in 2004.
