Jayalalithaa appoints C Vijayabaskar as Tamil Nadu's new Health Minister

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has appointed Dr C Vijayabaskar as the new health minister of the state. Dr Vijayabaskar will replace KC Veeramani.

The decision was taken hours after the Tamil Nadu assembly session was adjourned sine die today.

Veeramani has now been assigned the portfolios of School Education, Archaeology, Sports and Youth Welfare, Tamil Official Language and Tamil culture, a Raj Bhavan communique said.

Vijayabaskar's certain witty remarks in the Assembly yesterday had culminated in the eviction of DMK and DMDK members.

Representing Viralimalai assembly constituency, the 39-year-old MBBS graduate Vijayabaskar has become a minister for the first time.

"On the recommendation of the Chief Minister, the Governor has approved the induction of Dr Vijayabaskar, into the council of Ministers," the communique said.

The swearing in of the new Minister will be held at Raj Bhavan on November 1.
